Topic: CAD PROGRAMS--please give me ur vote

im looking towards meta, but everyone says its hard. is anyone else familiar with any other CAD program. i am going to try meta but would like everyones input on what is the easiest , yet the most productive CAD as of right now. thanks all for your cooperation....p.s.-->is there a way to customize your own baddy..with meta or any other CAD program? It doesn't have to be a CAD program exactly. Any program that lets you make 3D meshes will work. I have Painter3D, and it will edit the mesh exported by strpix. I haven't tried to import the mesh back, but it should work fine.
So, any 3D editing program will work. There are many out there besides CAD programs. Try a google search on 3D edit software.

metasequoia is the only free one... i use it and it works fine... and yes, you can make custom baddies but it takes alot of work!!!!!!!!!!!!------------------

only some dxf cads can be used, not all dxf files are supported by strpix------------------

ok ..please tell me, has anyone used anything other than stripix and meta?? what are the disadvantages and advantages of these two cos i am unsure as to which one to use in my custom objects meshes etc etc...------------------

META is not the only free program. See the thread:

OK, strpix will take meshes out of the WAD, and put them back. But it will not edit them.
You need a separate edit program, that is why CAD, etc is needed.Use strpix to find the mesh and export it.
Use CAD program to edit the mesh.
Use strpix to import the mesh and texture it. And no, not all 3D editing programs are equal. And they don't all support the right file formats. It takes a little investigation to find a good one. Free ones won't be as versatile or as easy to use, but you get what you pay for.

ok i need a GOOD cad program to download. i got strpix3 and i can open different WADS with all their textures...but i cannot put them into the black box...what is this black box on the right hand side used for? whats its purpose.. its a lot easier than i am making it i am sure. can someone give me a good CAD program that i can download and maybe give me a good explanation on inporting and exporting. just a simple example is fine, i just need to get an idea thanks all!------------------

I can't do what I want yet in 3D Canvas so I haven't created (or edited) any objects yet.------------------

Mister, the box on the right is for a 3D display of the mesh you pick. Since strpix uses openGL, there might be problems with the 3D display. There appears to be a particular problem with ATI video cards, which is what I have. Sometimes the 3D works, sometimes not. When it does, it only works partly.The general solution has been to turn off hardware acceleration for your video card. This is supposed to make it display correctly. I haven't tried it yet.
Not sure if there is a requirement for video resolution or color depth.

i donnot think that Meta is so hard....it is so easy than Rhino3d
i downloaded many cad programs before i got Meat(anim8or-milkshape3d-minos..)
but all this cads donot export the correct dxf files that needed for STRPIX
Rhino3d is not free but you use it with strpix and it is so complexxxx
i think that Meta is the best one and easy to learn
or if you donot like it there are some good cads:lightwave-autocad..)

I like rhino3d, not super easy but it makes nice models.------------------

get meta. Its the best (for free) In one hour with meta, I made three finished custom objects, and replaced the revlover in the game and in the inventory with a custom desert eagle.------------------
