I have a cunning plan

Which I think would make it possible to give the illusion of the lift was moving - and have Lara move from floor to floor without a real moving lift ......

Unless of course someone gives us the real McCoy

Anyone interested?

I believe it has something to do with flipping something... I asked about it somewhere and that's what they said. But what's your plan?

Well I was just testing the water initially.

I don't want to spend a lot of time on it if someone then says - " Hey look real working lift".

I don't want to give the trick away yet as it could be quite a "coup d'etat" if no-one can give us a real lift.

I won't keep you waiting too long - working on a test PRJ at the mo

Watch this space......

As you replied first, wiredGIRL, I'll give you a sneak preview first if it works OK?

Well there is the lift from TR2, I believe it may be an animating on a timer, although I haven't checked. I may have to look into this.

Cunning plan...a curious choice of words. I've only ever heard it once before -- on Black Adder.

The words were chosen carefully - Baldricks plans are seldom successful

Still working on idea

Is it that flipmap, on/off thing, the rooms that you can flip back and then back on.

Actually a combination of ideas,

Flip maps, texture animations, a sort of title sceen transition etc all rolled into one.

Having trouble with the flip-map part

I'm using these ideas as a reasong to learn the different parts of the TRLE

Anyone done a SIMPLE flip map PRJ ?

I haven't sussed it yet

There is an easy way 2 do lifts. Simply create a room connecting one room to another. Lara enters through one door, and then it closes. You time it for a few seconds, using earthquake effects to simulate the lift moving, and then the other door opens, so you think you've just been in a lift but really you've just walked between two rooms.

Good idea kioppo

But I was using this as an opportunity to master flip maps / animation ranges etc.

Do you know how to get flipmaps to work?

Does anyone?

Any help on this issue greatly appreciated

At present I am following the manual and it won't work for me.

I build a simple room with a joined entrance corridor (where Lara is placed)

I click flipmap and place an item / change lighting / make floor become stairs etc

But when I go back to the unflipped room it's the same as the flipped...

I placed the trigger in the corridor

I output and built the TOM just in case it only shows properly in the game - No joy

Where am I going wrong???

Would someone give me a simple 2 room PRJ with a working flipmap to study - I can't see what I'm missing.

I'vre read the manual and looked at the levels but can't grasp it

okay using the flipmap you have to click on the letter f below the plan grid, the background should go black, make you changes and press alt and f to back to the unflipped room, remember its one flipmap per room, you cannot make several rooms in flipmap mode

Im not exactly sure what you are talking about but you could use the same methed used in the Tomb of Seth level for raising the sand, except you could re-texture it.

Animation ranges is easy, just click on Animation Ranges under the texture panel, and select the textures you want animated. Then, when you place one of those textures in the level, it will 'flip' through all the other textures u selected.

Well I extracted the TR2 elevator but haven't found the right object slot for it, and it doesn't work in an animating slot.

    hey Conan
I can say your on the right track.
I've done this several months ago with very good sucsess.
the ilusion involved flip maps, flybys, an earth quake triger, and most importantly a quirk in the editor where several rooms can share the exact same space. (a quirk well worth exploiting).
my level sits unfinished as it has for months but the lifts work perfectly.
I would love to see this project finished, but can't seem to find the time.
maybee you or somone eles would like to take over on it.

    thanx... -robbase
