Help me - I am on the verge of releasing my first completely complete level, until it decided to crash! Ok, here's what happened:

I begin the level and run foreward and should trigger a flyby camera. The game crashes. In order to make sure the problem is not the flyby camera, I delete the trigger fo it. I rebuild and play again, and I get about two squares farther, and it crashes again, sending me to the desktop.

What could possibly be causing this?
Considering:


  • I am using an unedited wad
  • I have seven flame_emitters in the next room
  • I have two objects in the next room
  • I am well under the room limit
  • The next room is rather large
  • I have about 4 shadows and about 4 lights in the next room
  • I can't think of any more crazy reasons

Help me, Please! The Level is guaranteed to be released during this next week if this is fixed!

maybe that 'large room' used up too much video memory.

I don't think that's it, the room was there for a long time and everything worked. I haven't changed that room since it was working, so I don't think that's the problem.

Maybe you´ve reached the texture memory limit. I had this problem a thousand times.

Look at the converter window when converting the TOM to TR4 and post here all the results related to textures. Maybe I can help you.

Try to delete some flame emitter. There's a certain limit on flames. Isn't it Psiko?

31 exactly... who are you?

anyhow the problem in this case I think it is in the wad... too many objects to load (both in the wad either in the prj) don't go over 256 for the SAME static object in the PRJ...

Good god - I only have about 15 flames total, objects, about 20 of the same... Is there a limit on enemies? I have about 15 skeletons in the whole level, all triggered separately...

there are also limits in the objects you can put in the wad (not too many moveable, start deleting them) and even in the amount of flipmaps you can have (depending on the number of animations in the wad)

If you have a SAS in your wad, start deleting it.

oh, try to not have more then 15 lights (shadow too) in the same room (every room). Try keeping the number down 10 for each room (it is better and faster).

Have you got a trapdoor in any of these rooms?

If it is not positioned properly (on the roof of the room below) the game will either freeze or crash

Try turning off the flame emitters or torches after you leave the room so they don't count against your light total. And if you have any fog bulbs, I think they also count toward your light total, because they all come on at once and stay on.
