I have been doing a bit of research into the TR series music tracks and have noticed that all of the music except for the "Theme Tune" is missing from both of the TR1 Gold "Unfinished Business" CDs. Mirai has already found that there is no music at all on TR1 gold for the MAC.

Could someone check and see what music files are on the original TR1 (non-Gold version / single CD) release for PC?

The missing tracks are (so far):

"Where the Depths Unfold"
"Time to Run"
"Longing for Home"

( All can be downloaded from Nathan McCree's website: http://www.meode.com/tombraider1.htm )

Thanks

WBM

As far as i am aware ,none of the PC/MAC versions of TR1 included any music tracks exept the title music.

I can't remember where i read it , but it did say that this was by design, that the music from the PSX version wasn't included in the PC/MAC versions of the game.

I have the Unfinished Business TR1 , and had previously played TR1 on PSX and must say i really missed the atmospheric music .

I'll have a look and see if i can find where i read the comment about the missing music, maybe it's in the UB manual.

I found this in the readme file for TR1 Unfinished Business.

I can only assume it's the same for the original single CD version of TR1:

.....................................
9. Where is the background music?
Background Music only occurs during the animated sequences, Main Title Screen,
and Lara’s action such discovering a secret room or is in danger. Sound effects
are gunshots, movement collision, footsteps, grunts, and animal sounds.
The DOS/WIN 95 version only contains 9 audio tracks. You can listen to
these tracks using your CD audio controller. The Sony and Saturn versions
contain more audio tracks. This was a design decision.

Below is a summary of each track in the DOS/WIN 95 version:
Track 1: Data files for the whole game
Track 2: Background music for the Main Title Screen
Track 3: Ambient music
Track 4: Another ambient sound
Track 5: Introduction sound
Track 6: Another sound
Track 7: Natla and Lara's dialogue after the Great Pyramid Level
Track 8: Lara and Larson's dialogue after LEVEL 4
Track 9: Lara places the scion, after Natla's Mine
Track 10: Lara is reading the hieroglyphics, after Tomb of Tihocan level.

Hi skibsy,

Thanks for all of your detective work.

Having just heard the TR1 tracks for the first time I am finding it rather incredible that I, along with millions of other PC and MAC owners have never heard these fantastic tracks..

What a bizarre "design decision".. the mind boggles at why it was better to exclude these tracks when there is ample space for them on the CD.

Is it possible to extract the missing music tracks from the PlayStation version? Has anyone done this? I hate to think that I may be missing out on including additional TR music in my levels.

Hi WBM,

I agree with you about the tracks on TR1, they are really beautifull and atmospheric, and like you say, loads of people who've played on PC/MAC have never heard them.

Why they were excluded ,i don't know.

If you want to extract the tracks from the Playstation version, yes you can do it.
There might be other utilities to do it with, but i reccommend going to the following link and downloading CDEX
http://www.cdex.n3.net

With this you can rip the tracks from the PSX CD and save them as WAVs or MP3s.

This saves the hassle of finding and downloading them.......have fun
