TRLE is amazingly easy comared to other editors , most editors look like 3D cad programs If you look for WorldCraft ( works on alot of games to recreate levels especially Half life) on the net you will see how hard it is.

And the triggers are very simple! Compare it with the Star Craft Campaign Editor!

The Starcraft Campaign editor was FAR easier than the Tomb Riader one. Actually, most of the level editor's I've used are easier.
*Edit* Apart from the Quake 3 Arena one.

Alot of complaints about editors is due to a lack of knowledge about 3D modeling and animation. After all, these tools are supposed to be for professionals who know what they are doing. So of course it would appear difficult for the average person with no training or experience.

That said, once you have used any editor to create a couple of levels, you will start to think it is easy to use. I think most people thought TRLE was difficult at first, but now think it is easy.

The only other level editor I have used is Duke Nukem 3D. It was all DOS, and you had to switch between 2D and 3D display, both full screen. Textures were in a popup window. A little mouse action, but mostly keystroke commands. But once you got used to it, it was pretty easy to use.

I've used the Unreal and Serious editors... the TRLE is much easier to learn than both of those... but a lot more limited in what you can do...

I think TRLE is associated with the word SQUARE, and Worldcraft with NORMAL.

I think TRLE is very easy to use, since the begining. The only boring thing is its annoying instability. Bugs appear for no reason. Flipmaps that cannot be saved, CD tracks that donīt play... You know... But these can be related to the combination of the Editor and the engine, I donīt know...

Quite a number of years ago, before Quake, I attempted (and I stress attempted) to build a Doom level. Well, after about the time it takes to make a TR level, I managed to create one room with textures. The level builder was a DOS program and it had very limited tools.

The TRLE works fine for creating the types of levels Lara was meant to be in.

But I understand they are using the Unreal editor for TRNG. Or did I hear wrong?

I'm not too sure about that... but if they are there are three possibilities--

The origanal Unreal engine,. which sucked

The update of said engine used for UT, which was quick cool

The new Unreal Warfare engine *grin*

But I find all of that highly unlikely...

TR Level Editor is good for TR levels, blocky

CAD editors are difficult, but they can be mastered in about 2 months or less. They give a much more REAL feel.

Final Fantasy? I think that ALL 3D games are made with CAD programs.

The Tomb Raider is a lot easier to use than Worlcraft and Unreal Ed amongst others, but it is a lot more basic than these editors.

You're limited to building in square blocks of a specific size, rather than being able to define your own 'building blocks'.

Other editors are more flexible and allow you to build objects such as a ladder or a fence, within the editor.

That's not to say the Tomb Raider editor isn't any good....it's beauty lies in it's simplicity.

Putting doors ,switches and the triggers in levels is a doddle compared to other editors, so it's got it's pros and cons.

I have to say i've spent far more time on the editor than other editors so it works for me!
