Just played Highland Fling from TRLA again. What a wonderful level! One of the best atmospheres in official TR levels!

Well,

Remember a dog statue which becomes alive and turns into a real dog attacking Lara (at a stairway which leads to the big green pit).
I would like to know how they did that. Maybe itīs a combination of dog trigger and flipmap. The statue could be an animating thing which is not visible in the flipped room, or itīs antitriggered to disappear, when the dog is triggered...

And did you notice the dogs have red light coming from their eyes, I always figured they were robots. But I think it would have had to have been used in conjunction with a flipmap.

And I always thought that the dog_MIP was used to create something familiar
I never figured out what they're for anyway(the Mip items).
But your version makes more sense

It's an OCB setting. In TRLE it 3. It may be a different number in TRLA, but I'm sure it's done the same way.

Didnīt try yet but the OCB with number 3 for the dogs is for making they sit still until triggered, right?

In Highland Fling, the dog statue seems to be another object, very different from the dog itself. The statue is light green (the dog is black). The meshes are not the same. I still believe in object swapping somehow.

Hey, you're right! Sorry, it's been a long time since I played TRLA. Anyway, I just looked at a converted TR2WAD wad of this level and there is a dog statue object. So, here's a thought. What if it uses a mesh swap AND OCB 3? It could be setup so that OCB 3 would tell it to use the altenate mesh (statue) and then, when triggered, go to the moving dog. Think that's feasable?
