I am a little irritated by adjusting the sound. I did everything the manual explains. But they do not talk wich letter you have to add with a custum wad. I replaced also one sound with the same value as the other sound files. PCM 22050, 16 bit, mono. When I do this the level crashes. When I replace it with the original one you dont hear it and a part of Lara's bum is gone . I am playing all evening with it now. Can I read somewhere on how it's done in the right way or can someone explain? I tryed all letters even the g wich I think it counts for all wads?

Thanks

I wanted to adapted the sounds once too. But I ran in just the same problems that you have, so I gave up. If someone would have the solution, I would be gratefull too.

Are tou using Windows sound recorder to convert the sounds to PCM 22050 16 BIT format?

If so, it doesn't work properly, so i'd reccommend using something like Goldwave to convert them.
I had problems with sound recorder and used Goldwave instead and it works fine.

You can get Goldwave here:
http://www.goldwave.com/

I'm not exactly sure what letters you use for custom wads, but i always use g for mine and it works.

I will try goldwave, tanks. I use wavestudio that came with my soundblaster live. That should not give any problems right? Well, gonna try and try again

It's becoming clear to me now. I renamed my wad into sanctuaryICE and used the c letter as in the manual because I replaced this wad with settomb. So the sound is added with no problem. However, the sounds of added animating, enemies and stuff are gone because there not in the settomb wad. These sounds are missing. I readded these objects but then the added sound wil dissapear again. So I am afraid that I must adjust an entire sound.txt file for a custom wad because the excisting one is not made for one. Or, somebody else knows a better solution?

edit your SOUND.txt (after a safe copy of it)and ADD every sound you need: for example add a "g" to every sound you need.

If you want, you can create a new associated letters for your levels: fpr example To (capital T normal o) and compile writing "To"

Then for new sound effects you have to SAVE the wav file with the SOUND FORGE program which is a program for sound editing.

The manual says only the format, but when my levels crashed without a good reason, I had a look on the properties of every sample and I saw that most of all were created with SOUND FORGE 4.

So, I did think that "something" in the way that program save that format was the solution: I tried the 5th version (downloaded from the web) and it worked: nothing was changed in my samples, I simply opened my new sounds and saved them with SF 5: they worked perfectly.

Now I think you will be able to find only that version or higher (the sound forge 4 is not available anymore and nowhere), so you probably will fix the crashing problem with the newest version, as I did

I thought already that was the solution so I am afraid that I must do this nobel task, add all sounds from my sam file. I used goldwave and this works to. If I find more problems I will switch to this soundforge.

Thanks

OK now I adjusted an entire sound.txt file. I got every sound from every object in my level. My added sound works well but now some of the objects still dont make a sound and I checked these sounds and they are in the sam file. Lara is allright, no invisible bums but how to fix this next step of sounds and mystery...

ok, but sometimes it may happen that for huge sound effect files you put in the wad some other sound don't work anymore: for example I did put a 155 KB wav file which is something like 7 or 8 other sound effects: in this way I went "over" the limit, and some lara's weapon lost its sound...

No crashes, only the sound are authomatically taken away while converting to the TR4.

if you edited the sound.txt, you simply added to many sound effects, maybe too heavy.
