Ok, I am going to make a level based on TR Peru, It will be a lost ancient Mayan city in the Jungle, but I need advice on what sort of things people like in levels.

1: do people like long levels, or do they find it annoying?

2: do people like a spooky atmosphere to the game like seeing baddies alive one minute then dead with a huge hole through them?

3:What sort of textures would be good, are the old TR textures too basic?

4: would people like the old TR Lara with the sounds from TR, or would they like a new Lara outfit?

5:do people like levels full of traps and puzzles, or do they like a balance of not too much traps and not to much puzzles?

I hope to make a really good level, thanks for any advice.

In response to your questions, this is what i would like to see in your level:

1: Long levels are great.

2: sounds pretty cool.

3: I personally like TR1 textures, and would like to see more levels using them.

4: Maybe a new oufit would be good, though the old one is still cool.

5: Yes ,traps and puzzles are what i like in a level, especially original puzzles, although it's quite hard to be really original.
A good balance of both is ideal if you can achieve it.

Hpoe that helps, and good luck with the level

1. No problem with big levels, but if it is realllly big in file size (Room Tex Infos show up more then 300, and other reasons why the level couldn't convert for some people) I'd advice to release it in tr4 format. But long levels rule

2. It depends on the taste of the player, in this section it more depends what you prefer. But I like spooky levels personally

3. I'd advice a mix of custom and TR1 textures. The TR1 textures can look good, but in my opinion they ARE too basic.

4. No problem with TR1 Lara, but plz change the color of her top at least. I think it's boring that there are about 700 levels out there and 3/4 of them have the same old suit without a single change.

5. This is what you should decide yourself. Don't make it full with traps and puzzles. There are limits (not the LE, but how many a player can take of them) of how many traps can be installed in a tomb/temple or whatever it'll be.

Hope this will help you

1: Better too big than too small, I say.

2: DEFINITLEY yes.

3: Whatever looks good and works with your level.

4: I would quite like to see the original Lara, with all the original sounds. TR1 beats all.

5: Balance is important, but a good number of traps and puzzles would be preferable to hardly any.

I always say this and i will keep saying it.

Asking other peoples opinnion isnt always right, neither its wrong to ask, but everyone has its taste and looks on a type of level. So this is what you better should do

Let your imagination guide you

Let your inspiration create your levels

Be inspired by playing TR3 India, south pacific islands levels, a great inspiration source.

Believe me, i never asked anyone how i should make my jungle levels. If i can make it trough my hard school days then i would jump behind my pc, launch tr3 and let myself inspired then build.

But if you want techincal info like envorimental texture sets and sounds:

Tr3,Tr2 and Tr1 tracks are for my oppinion the best tracks as well as level background or sudden happenings

Dont use tomb textures, Tr1 textures are almost all based on inside areas

Collect the most fitting objects for your wad, trees, wild animals ( tigers monkey ) pushable objects ( square ones not the pillars or the chess pieces from catacomb.wad )

------------------
The best thing and last thing is to try ( ^_^ )=b

Ahh...finally, a nice, happy discussion again.

1: I like long ones, but I have always wondered what would happen if someone made a series of levels as short as the beginning ones in the original Tomb Raider.

2: I love a suspenseful atmosphere, if that answers your question.

3: I mix my sets using Texture Editor, using whatever I like from all the Tomb Raider levels.

4: One of us would love to see the original Lara (with sounds) in a level!!

5: I like levels that are full of exploration areas (Lost Valley) and also full of trap-and-puzzle areas (like The Great Wall).
