Does anyone know where these are stored in the TR4 file? Or is this one of the hard-coded things? I've searched all of the graphics in TR4 files that have the HORIZON object in the wad, but I can only find the sky, not the horizon.

What do you mean? I know that you are talented with these things. When there is a horizon in the wad that is meant for an outside level then it has textures on them. If the horizon is in a wad for a level inside then it is black. The sky textures are in the default sprites that can be viewed with trviewer. The sky texture itself can have a color and is saved as wadname.raw. You can adjust the color of the sky in the script when you use the pcsky.raw file that will be used by the converter if there is not a wadname.raw file. Gee I see that you meant .tr4 files. Sorry I only know about wads ------------------ Dont you think you've seen enough?...BANG!!! [This message has been edited by piega (edited 05-28-2002).] IP: Logged |

It's a simple matter to export the sky graphics. I wanted to be able to get the horizon graphics from a level. Are they stored as a wad object?

The answer is yes, the horizon is stored as an object in the WAD. If you look at jeepchas.wad (from TR4) for example, the mesh for the horizon is Mesh #298 in Strpix. Textures for the horizon object are stored in the WAD but they are a bit weird in that some of the repeating textures used actually occupy different slots in the texture TGA, i.e. instead of using the same texture twice they waste space by using a different part of the TGA to display the SAME texture. If you instruct the horizon to re-use similar textures it causes the TR engine to crash. So, for some unknown reason the horizon wastes texture memory. It appears to be sloppiness on Core's part because this only occurs in some WADs and not others.. quote: Originally posted by aktrekker: I wanted to be able to get the horizon graphics from a level.
I don't know whether you want the actual texture TGAs or their location in the TR4 file so this may be useless / obvious information for what you are trying to do, but you can also use Strpix to export all textures from the horizon object. Hope this is helpful. WBM

Thanks for the info. I'll have to decide if it's worth the trouble.
