Is there any way that I can get a free level editor? Just up to TRIII type? Sorry, I know nothing about level editing, etc.

you can get TRedit3D, made by Turbo Pascal. It is not powerful as the TRLE, but it's easier and free. You can make levels for all TRs. You won't be able to use or implement WADs in your levels. Go to his site to get it.

If you want to play other people's custom levels or make more complex levels, then buy the TRLe, which comes with TRC.

WADs are is just a file that contains animation, static objects, movables, and textures. You use .WADs only with the TRLE, and you can blend and mix animations, movables, objects, textures etc.

With the free TRedit3D, all animations, static objects etc. are aready within the base file. So you cannot blend animation, objects etc. which sort of limits your creativity.

People are coming up with new and creative .WADs, like wad with an object to replace the shotgun with the HK rife. Or a WAD to replace Lara with another character.

Same happen with the oficial level editor when only few limited WAD are released, and only for some tr4 level.

Then a unoficial programer build Trwest tool that allow to extract and combine objects from the wad and even build new wad from the compiled tr4 level found in the full tr4 game.

Currently for work with the oficial editor everybody is working severals externals tools too, ttwest, strpix3, easy_texture, tr2wad, etc.

My unoficial level editor work almost the same way, all predefined "WAD" are all already compiled levels from games from tr1-TRc.

We have our trwest kind tool but called "trviewer" (now used for some oficial lvel editor user) who allow us to extract and combine object from compiled version and build our own custom "base" file for build the new level. (except for TRC)

Also we have our 'easy texture' tool called trtexture.exe program, that allow us to add custom textures to our base levels.

Along with the other tool called Rview exe for make a beter texture & ligh work and export the geometry to a CAD program, we can build powerfull and very great levels for tr1, trii, tr3, and Trc levels as good as those build for the oficial editor.

Check this web site where you can found some tr1-trc level bult with this editor.

More info about these tools is at my web site

Best regards.
