I wan't to create tomb raider objects. My uncles friend is into 3D modeling and he has 3D studio Max. I was wondering if 3D studio max is any good? I know it is expensive, but I would just like to know. Also is Rhino 3D anygood? Are they any good 3D programs out there, also are they good free 3D programs?

Rhino 3D is very useful, and 3DS Max is also a great program. (I use both very often)
However they are insanely priced.. And they take a LOT of work to understand.
I do not suggest it unless you are very devoted and plan to do a lot more than TRLE.

There is a free 3D program, which is based on 3D studio MAX. GMAX is called it and comes from the same manufacturer as 3D studio MAX. The Link is www.discreet.com .
The only disadvantage is, which it no 3ds-Format supports. But otherwise everything offers which 3D studio MAX also has.

thanks , but I have already tried GMAX and loved it. But you could only save objects as .gmax. No 3ds or dxf. Is studio max better?

3dsmax is better to use it with trviewer to import textured objects. Only 3ds-format support textured objects. I love 3dsmax and I work day by day with it.
This I made and it work perfect.

I've heard that the models for (at least
the first 3) TR series were created in
3D Studio(the Kinetix program before
3D Studio Max).

the bones systems/animations were done
in the plugin "Character Studio".

Which one is better to make dfx objects for Tomb Raider, Rhino 2 or 3D Studio Max? What are their differences?
