I don't want to discourage you but learning 3d studio max is really a big effort and you shouldn't do it only for this level editor but thats not my business.

There are a lot of tutorials with 3d studio max. Try them!

yes you are right seven125, learning 3D studio max is a big effort, but Tombhead_76 is just learning 3D studio and wants to learn some basic stuff. Making 3D objects for the tomb raider level editor is not that hard, it just takes some time. You need to know the basic stuff to 3D model and creating objects for the tomb raider level editor is great practice! Good luck tombhead_76

Also I am learning 3D studio Max

Yes!

I probably was a little bit too pessimistic. But 3d studio max is a really amazing programm! You can do (allmost?) everything with it.

Forget the particle system, the snow is contained as object in the EXE and as object (waterfall) the liquid operational sequence of the level would impair. I have already try rains in this kind to close, but the level was only played jerky.

Hi Tombhead_76,

The reason that you can't export snow is that it is a particle system. There is no geometry in particle systems because they are normally used to create complex natural events which are random such as flocks of birds, rain, smoke, fire etc. The results of particle systems can only be rendered - each flake of snow is not physically presence in the MAX scene, it is 'drawn' in the render. A .3DS mesh requires physical geometry to be present in the scene. In order to create snow which you could export to a mesh, you would have to create individual snowflakes and animate them using Space Warps or the Crowd Behaviour (in the Biped plug-in).

There are many MAX tutorials on the web. Just search for 'MAX tutorials' on the Web. Try the following link to start with:
http://www.3dcafe.com/asp/tut3ds.asp

MAX does take a long time to learn, but once you know it, you can apply your knowledge to any 3D tool in the future.

Good luck.

WBM

P.S. The link above doesn't explain how to export meshes / animations to TRLE - it's a list of tutorials which will help you to understand how to use MAX. You will need to learn several other tools in order to do what you want to do: TRViewer, Strpix, TRWest, and a paint program like PhotoShop or similar.

Sorry, but it did not function correctly there I it deleted. But one can build it fast, the principle is the same as with the waterfall, only which I took as textures which with rain drops.
