Welcome back!

Sticking to those New Year’s resolutions? Hang in there!

I’ve set several goals for myself this year, the most ambitious being to get out and explore. As a relatively new inhabitant of San Francisco (and a fan of lazy weekend gaming), I’ve yet to experience much of the natural beauty and culture the bay area has to offer. Lucky for me a new Tomb Raider community incentive has provided the motivation to get out and about. More on that later.

Forum members recently put their best trollface forward in our “Internet Meme” challenge. Congratulations to the winners!

February ushers in a new contest celebrating Valentine’s Day and our love for Lara Croft. We’re encouraging fans to get creative and make a custom V-Day card – the cheesier the better. Would you “Endurance” anything for your Valentine?

First place takes home a limited Tomb Raider North Face jacket, and all three winners will secure some tasty holiday chocolates. Enter while there’s still time!

Exploration & discovery remains at the heart of Tomb Raider, which makes our collaboration with Geocaching.com the perfect experiential opportunity for fans!

Crystal Dynamics will be working with Groundspeak – the Seattle-based company set on inspiring outdoor play through location-based technology – as part of the campaign leading up to the release of Tomb Raider.

Haven’t heard of Geocaching? Established 11 years ago, Groundspeak’s ambitious goal was to create the world’s largest location-based, real-world treasure hunting experience. A hobby to some and lifestyle to others, avid geocachers keep track of their discoveries by downloading Geocaching.com’s mobile app, or by utilizing traditional GPS devices to track down targets.

On average 180,000 geocache experiences are logged each day. It’s an activity supported by a 5-million strong community that seeks over 1.5 million active geocaches hidden throughout the world. Some of these caches are creatively placed in populated areas like Times Square. Others require an adventurer’s attitude to uncover, such as those tucked away near the Great Wall of China.

The collaboration will be executed through a series of location-based, worldwide adventures. Challenges unfold through both the traditional treasure-hunting format established by Groundspeak, and the more recent photo-based framework, Geocaching Challenges.

While we’re not disclosing any specifics about future activities just yet, I encourage you to get outside and start exploring! Take advantage of the Geocaching.com Maps Beta to find caches near you. I guarantee you’ll be surprised by how many are in your area. There is a handful within walking distance of the Crystal Dynamics campus, one of which continues to elude me because of impressively creative (and cryptic) clues.

I can’t wait to share more information with you in the future. Until then, get outside and see what you can uncover!

Till next time!
