Happy New Year Tomb Raiders!

It’s officially 2013. In less than two months Tomb Raider will hit shelves worldwide. It’s an exhilarating (and nerve-racking) time for the studio. Some of the team are ramping down on duties, and taking much-needed time with family and friends. Others, like myself, are gearing up for an ambitious launch. One thing is certain, however. We’re all incredibly excited. Excited to get Tomb Raider into your hands. Excited to engage players in fresh and bold experiences. Excited for the future of a franchise we love.

We’re positive 2013 is going to be a stellar year for Crystal Dynamics. We hope it will be for you, too.

Yep, you read it right. The February issue of OXM (hitting mailboxes late December) has revealed a secret addition to Tomb Raider, and one a long-time in the making. While Crystal Dynamics has been hard at work crafting and polishing the single-player experience, our sister studio Eidos Montreal has been working tirelessly to introduce multiplayer to the world of Tomb Raider. Inspired by the overwhelmingly positive response to co-op play in Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light, we’ll have many more details about Tomb Raider’s multiplayer offering come CES in Las Vegas early January. I hope you guys are as excited as I am by the reveal! I can’t wait to play with fellow fans come launch day.

December was full to the brim with new video goodies. First up - The Final Hours of Tomb Raider Episode 3: The Sound of Survival. This episode of our Final Hours series uncovers our award-winning composer, Jason Graves. In the feature Graves discusses the game’s soundscape and speaks to how he infused atmosphere, emotion, and authenticity into the musical score. His search to find the perfect sound for the game even lead to collaboration with sculptor Matt McConnell, who created a wholly original instrument to aid Graves in his journey. Enough talk – more listening! Tune into The Sound of Survival here!

Next on the roster is our newest trailer, simply titled “Survivor.” Lara is forever changed when her friends are captured and she realizes she is the only one who can save them. Pushed to the limits of human fortitude, Lara knows that if she doesn’t survive, none of them will. In conjunction with the trailer release we also let loose a slew of new screens, which you can check out in this gallery.

Did you tune into our Week of Tomb Raider coverage courtesy of IGN? If not, catch the full recap here. The week of coverage culminated the reveal of our Guide to Survival series. This new, narrated video series dives deep into the world of Tomb Raider, exploring everything from character to core gameplay mechanics. This first episode focuses on Lara as a smart and resourceful young woman through the basecamp system, which acts as a hub for upgrading her skills, modifying weapons, and preparing for the daunting adventure ahead. Watch the first episode here.
