RULES
Stage 1 : Designing the room

  • Each person will create a room (stacking is allowed up to three rooms). Maximum size allowed: 20x20*¹.
  • Each room will be connected to the next room via a one tile 4 click room. Each member will add one where they want their room to be connected to the next member.
  • All rooms will be completed one by one by each member in turn (see list) and then sent on via e-mail to me (TREEBLE).
  • This is for fun, each room will be totally individual in its design. You don't have to follow anyone else's design.
  • Each member will have a deadline of a week to build his/her room and then send it back to me.
  • NO WADS OR TEXTURES WILL BE REQUIRED AT THE ROOM CREATION STAGE, HOWEVER, EACH PERSON WILL BE ABLE TO TEXTURE HIS/HER OWN ROOM WHEN THE TIME COMES. (if you test your room with textures, be sure to CLOSE the editor before loading up the original poject again).

*¹ be sure to read later posts to know why the size limit changed. Thanks

If you need to test your room, save it first without any objects or textures and save it as a separate test PRJ and then texture and add objects, and then output the wad to test it. If there are any problems you can then load the original back in to change the errors, then test it again using the same procedure. This way when the time comes to send the PRJ back to me, it will still not contain any textures/objects.

TRLE Community Level stages:
1) Designing the room. (68%)
2) Textures and lights placement. (0%)
3) Objects and triggers placement. (0%)
This means that the project will be three times with each member of the project.

The next stages rules will be posted only when we achieve the next stages.

Project started on: October 16th, 2001
Project finished on: **not finished yet**

Probably no demos, and the full version will depend on everyone. Maybe about September 2002. I am expecting to get it ready before Tomb Raider: The Angel Of Darkness.

project received

I've had a look at the proceedings of the rooms and I wish to point out that we have to be careful not to build our rooms too high in reference to the maximal ceiling height.

When the ceiling of a room exceeds 128, the project will begin to bug.

The Level Editor is not prepared for rooms higher than 128 clicks above ground level or rooms lower than 128 clicks below ground level, as there is 1 byte reserved for the floor and ceiling positions (-128 through 128 = 256 (8 bits)).

I just though I pointed that out, before anyone accidentally exceeds this limit and is subjected to the painstakingly job of re-designing their rooms.

Treeble, can you give me a reminder on how many objects each member may add in the objects-adding-stage?

I did not know about that limit, I will look the project to see if anyone made a room higher than 128.

The number of objects is 9 each person.

nobody made one higher than 128 yet, as the bug is *very* noticable
the room goes all freaky like it's thousands of clicks high

the highest room up until now is 114, I just posted this as a precausion

What do you think about including your country name together with your name in the readme file?

Like this: TREEBLE from Brazil...
etc. etc.

EDIT
If you like the idea, post the country where you live.

It's not such a bad idea, but I think we could live without it aswell.

eTux from Latvia

A question - how much time does a member have to make his/her room? If it isn't much I hope the project reahes me before the end of June.

The deadline is one week, but there are members that made their work in two days...
If a deadline was applied on the creation of the project, we probably would be on the second stage, as there were members who needed months to say: "sorry, I couldn't do it"

Just curious now, what will happen after June??

Oh, nothing special. Just will leave the country with a few friends for 5 days
even if the project reaches me in one of those days, I have time for it, just wanted to know. Creating a room wont take more than an hour for me.

Did you even you know that their is a limit how deep Lara can fall? In a level I created a very deep pit (~200 clicks), when I wanted to see how long she would fall (and scream), I noticed that Lara refused to enter the pit (an invisible wall held her back). I had to meake the pit less deep to make her able to jump in it.

Yes, you can do water rooms.
You can make a room stacking up to three rooms. No horizontal doors are allowed.
So, let me guess, you won't reveal the secret before the level is ready... right?

Okay, it's been nearly two months since I said I'd do this but, better late than never!

You can now find the TRLE Community Level / Forum Project Web Page at:
http://home.bwave.com/kingspyder/trleproject/index.html

The purpose of this page is to keep the "outside world" up to date on what's going on in our little project. This will also allow us to refer any newcomers to the details of the project without having to repost it every time. Please let me know if there are any errors or omissions.

Also, please read this forum page: 000922.html and please help if you can!

Ok, a rule has just changed.

The size limit was ignored by me in the beggining. Suzie made bigger rooms then I asked Suzie to re-do her rooms, she did. Sorry Suzie.
Driber_IF made great rooms but off limits. He refused to do it, simply because the error was mine. He is correct.
Seth just sent me a project with bigger rooms than the allowed. I told him, but I didn't want him to change them because that would be a lot more work!

So I guess that I will change that rule. I just want to remember that if you make huge rooms, your rooms will be problematic on the level. But, if you don't mind, then go ahead.

I am sorry for all the previous members who were thinking big and made very small rooms due to the rule. Sorry

From now on, members are allowed to make rooms big as 20x20. If the horizon break in your room, blame on you!

As for project update, well today is already April 21st, I know, but Seth had problems with his editor. He sent the project, but he forgot to add the connect room to the next member. I am waiting for a new project with his rooms.

Thanks,
and sorry once again

By the way, which object do you want to put in the level, as you have been asking this same question for ages???

Humm... Seems I'm missing the complete set of rules. I'm sure each stage was completely covered at one time.... Did you send me this by any chance? Or, was this on a forum page that I missed?

Recieved and downloading. I'll go through it and make any updates needed (alot, I'm sure ). I'll post when it's all added.

BTW, my domain is ready! Now I just have to wait for the host to get their act together and get it routed to my site! I *should* hear something from them this week, but that's not garanteed.

No, you are not missing anything. We just mentioned that we will use the original (suplied with TRLE disk) tut1 tga and tut1 wad, so we can keep the project simple. The real rules were not created yet, and will only be when time comes.

Only one thing is sure. The tut1.wad file will be suplied in the level package as it will contain an outfit that tommy will do, but the objects in the wad itself will be the same as in the original one.

Currently designing: djbrighty (deadline: May 5th)
