FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)
|
What is the TRLE?
- TRLE stands for Tomb Raider Level Editor. It is a program that
allows you to create your own Tomb Raider levels.
Where can I get it?
- The LE comes with the PC version of Tomb Raider Chronicles.
You can also buy it online on sites like amazon.com
and ebay.
You may also download the LE free of charge here.
What do I need to run the LE?
- The LE runs even on fairly old PCs. Supported Operating Systems
are Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows XP and Vista. There is also
a version for the Macintosh.
When I try to run it, but I keep getting an error message and
it throws me back to the desktop, what's wrong?
- The program is designed to work on a resolution of 1024x768
and 16bits color. Adjust your display settings and try again.
In Windows XP the roomeditor keeps spinning when I try move
the view. How can this be solved?
- Have a look in this
thread for a work-around.
How do I learn to use the LE?
- The setup installs a manual which contains a tutorial level
for the beginners and an advanced section for the more experienced
users. It is highly recommended you do the entire tutorial level
first, it covers all basic operations, it makes you familiar with
the LE interface and and learns you how to build your own custom
level. If there is something in the manual you don't understand,
the forum community is here to assist you.
Can I use objects/sound from other Tomb Raider games?
- The current level editor is from Tomb Raider The Last Revelation
and objects from other games in the series will not work correctly
unless edited by someone very talented, and without using TRWest
to put them in the right slots.
Can I modify any of the textures or objects?
Stripix is an application tool to modify the textures in a wad
and also the .dxf(s) (objects), it allows you to make new outfits.
Can I download the Tomb Raider executable file (the Tomb Raider
game engine that comes with the Level Editor?
It is now perfectly legal to host or download the Tomb Raider
executable that originally came with the Level Editor.
Will there be
an editor for AoD, Legend, etc?
- There will be No new Level Editor in the forseeable future
What do I need in order to play
a Tomb Raider custom level?
- You need the Tomb Raider Level Editor, as this contains the
TR4 engine that runs the level(s)
How do I set up a custom level?
- Usually, custom levels come with a readme file that contains
all the relevant info. If it doesn't, or you can't understand
the info, the following stages should help:
1. Download the custom level
2. Using 'Winzip' (or other decompression software), un-zip the
contents of the Zipfile.
3. Files with the following names Script.dat, English.dat
should be copied to the main TRLE directory i.e. C:\Program
Files\Core Design\trle.
4. Files with the following names *****.TOM, *****.CD, *****.lar,
*****.SAM, *****.sfx, *****.SWD, *****.txt, *****.WAD (where
'*****' denotes level title) should be copied to C:\Program
Files\Core Design\trle\graphics\wads.
5. Any .WAV files that have a number in the title, should be copied
to C:\Program Files\Core Design\trle\audio.
6. Any .WAV files that have a name other than a number in the
title, should be copied to C:\Program Files\Core Design\trle\sound\Samples.
7. Any .TR4 file should be copied to C:\Program Files\Core
Design\trle\data.
8. If you have a TR4 file, the level will run once all files have
been copied over, but if you have a .TOM file, you'll need to
convert the level before you can play it, using the level converter
found at C:\Program Files\Core Design\trle\tom2pc
